# Image credits

Photographs used on the overview page. All are real photographs of African
subjects. Each was downloaded once from Wikimedia Commons as a 1280px
thumbnail, then resized to 1200px wide and recompressed as JPEG. They are served
from this folder, not hotlinked. The same credits are in
`components/ui/ModuleArt.tsx` (`MODULE_PHOTOS`) and appear on the overview
under "Image credits". Selected and licence-checked against each file page on
2026-10-17.

Changes made to every image: resized to 1200px wide and recompressed as JPEG.
`exchanges.jpg` was also cropped from portrait to a 3:2 landscape band around
the JSE building. The CC BY-SA images are shared under their original licences.

Notes on provenance: `hero.jpg` has no description on its file page; the board
in the photograph reads "The Nigerian Stock Exchange" (18-09-2018), and the file
was submitted to Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 in Nigeria. `exchanges.jpg` is
dual-licensed on Commons (GFDL, relicensed to CC BY-SA 3.0); it is used here
under CC BY-SA 3.0. `industry.jpg` was imported from Flickr and passed
FlickreviewR for CC BY-SA 2.0.
